Self-affirmation, fashion-forward thinking, and self-expression are all terms synonymous with body-positivity; a movement that is about being unapologetic, fearless and self-accepting.

So who are the women that are at the forefront of body positivity? We’ve got our eyes on five bold and inspirational ladies who are encouraging us to celebrate womanhood through their trend-setting, motivational blogs.

Looking for a little encouragement? Start following our favourite body positive blogs of 2019. Here are our top 5 (in no particular order):

1. Musings Of A Curvy Lady

Thamarr started Musings Of A Curvy Lady from Jacksonville, Florida in 2012. It’s her personal way of rebelling against the rules of fashion and society.

You’ll almost immediately notice that she’s crazy about all things Parisian. We love her because she inspires her readers through her positive writing voice and “Curvy Lady Laws”:

  1. Our bodies are meant to be enjoyed now in the present.
  2. Never wait for the perfect size or goal weight to start living your best life.
  3. Red Lipstick is not optional.
  4. Women hating on women is out of fashion.
  5. Women supporting women needs to be more than a hashtag.
  6. Find your signature scent. Perfume should linger everywhere you want to be missed.
  7. Visit Paris at least once in your life. Trust me.
  8. The perfect cat eye is like wearing war paint.
  9. Being a genuine and kind person gives your outfit that je nais se quoi and is always in style.
  10. I’m not intimidating; you’re intimated.

She encourages her readers to love themselves enough to experiment with fashion. She says, “beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself.” How inspiring!

2. Girl With Curves

Tanesha Awasthi founded Girl With Curves in 2011. It is an award-winning blog created by a woman who believes that we deserve to look and feel beautiful, regardless of weight, shape or size.

Tanesha set out to empower curvy women to break fashion rules and simply wear what they love.

Follow this blog trends, style tips, beauty advice, parenting, wellness and much more!

Girl With Curves is “An attitude, a way of life, a set of standards that embodies unapologetic confidence regardless of weight, shape or size.”

3. The Body Positive

A more spiritual take on the movement, this was one of the pioneer body positive blogs.

Connie Sobczak and Elizabeth Scott started The Body Positive in 1996 because of their deep passion for creating a lively, healing community that offers freedom from suffocating societal messages that keep people in a perpetual struggle with their bodies.

The Body Positive teaches and inspires women to reconnect to their innate body wisdom so they can have more balanced, joyful self-care, resulting in a relationship with their whole selves that is guided by love, forgiveness, and humour.

4. Style Me Curvy

Writing about beauty, fashion, and travel, Louise O’Reilly speaks from experience as she’s a very successful international plus-size model. Seriously though, she works for eight different model agencies around the globe.

Her body positive blog is informative and inspiring. It was awarded ‘Best International Fashion Blog’ by Cosmopolitan UK and the IFB in 2013 AND 2014 and ‘Most Aussome Fashion Blog’ by Aussie Hair Care Australia 2014.

This woman truly celebrates curves and fashion for women of every body type, so if you’re looking for ideas on what to wear, what types of clothing suit your body type, or beauty tips, you need to get on this asap!

5. Kitty Canuck

Dubbed the body-positive boutique, Kitty Canuck’s website with its body positive blog is for the more alternative women out there.

Her fashion specialises in retro, mod-vintage, rockabilly, sweet lolita, pinup, and other alternative styles for curvy women.

She covers everything from dying your hair, the healing power of being the subject in a boudoir photography shoot, and plus-size, alternative fashion.

She says, “letting loose and wearing fabulous clothes did a lot for my self-confidence. I discovered mod-vintage style and have been hooked ever since. I want to show other women; they too, can stop hating themselves and feel fabulous.”.

Bonus blog: Curvy Girls Pole

Curvy Girls Pole is a movement for women to embrace their bodies. It was created by Jada Hudson to inspire curvy girls who may be apprehensive about getting involved in pole dance to challenge themselves by testing their limits and being bold and unapologetic about their love for pole!

If you’re looking to get fit and have been meaning to try pole, this blog is your gateway – your introduction into the world of plus-size pole fitness.

At Dushko International, our goal is to create a sense of community around plus-size pole fitness. We’re achieving this by not only writing about it, but we’ve also designed pole fitness wear for curvy women.

“People think plus-size models don’t exercise – we do! But it’s about health, not forcing my body to be something it’s not meant to be.” – Robyn
