You may ask what a company that sells pole dance clothing online could possibly do to fight climate change?
This month, Sir David Attenborough once again emphasized the significance of tackling climate change issues as a matter of urgency. He stated, “We cannot be radical enough in dealing with these issues. Over the coming decades, ‘great social unrest’ caused by climate change will affect what we eat and how we live”.
He talks about a mass exodus of people, especially from parts of Africa, a continent where vast areas could soon become entirely inhabitable for humans. Imagine what that would mean for immigration?
Last year, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change issued one of the starkest warnings from the scientific community to date. The warning? An increase of 1.5 degrees Celsius in global warming could occur within the next ten years.
The warning is loud and clear: we must act now, or we may well face the ultimate threat to human survival; the end of life as we know it.
If that sounds extreme, it’s not, and that’s why Dushko International has partnered with One Tree Planted.
We recently read an article that sheds light on a practical solution for climate change. Many of us are guilty of shrugging off the effects of modern existence on our earth. We hear the facts, get a little rattled and then kind of shrug it off thinking, “well, what can I do about it?”.
The reality is that you can do a great deal; with just a small amount.
One Tree Planted is an organization that allows you to donate the equivalent of one tree, planted in a specific region of the world. This is offered through their One For One program.
Why plant a tree?
In the article we mentioned, scientists say we need to plant at least 1 trillion trees if we are to cut carbon (a part of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide) in the atmosphere by 25%, bringing it down to levels not seen for nearly 100 years.
Trees clean the air we inhale, filter our water and provide habitat to over 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity.
Additionally, trees have created jobs for over 1.6 billion people, absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere, and are key ingredients in 25% of all medicines.
What does One Tree Planted do?
They partner with businesses and individuals that want to make an impact in the fight for climate change.
They plant trees on behalf of companies and individuals in locations that need it most. They have multiple amazing projects around the world! All of us can assist in addressing the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.
The environmental, social, and economic effect trees have, make them a crucial part of achieving global sustainable development.
How are we helping?
Because we sell pole dance clothing online, our product is mostly for women. We believe in trying to make a difference, and so as a result of selling women’s activewear, we’ve also embraced the body-positive movement and woman empowerment.
To add to this, we’ve now partnered with One Tree Planted in a big way. Specifically, the initiative we’ve chosen to associate with is helping a women’s cooperative, led by local farmer Agnes Uwifashije, to revive land in Rwanda, Africa.
What is this initiative about?
Rwanda’s forests support a wealth of biodiversity and natural resources. The Gishwati-Mukura forests of Rwanda once spanned over 625,000 acres, covering the land with over 60 species of trees and providing habitat to chimpanzees.
Unfortunately, overgrazing and tree cutting reduced the forests to a mere 8,700 acres. As a result, smallholder farmers feel the impacts deeply. The restoration of this landscape is imperative for water, energy and food security.
By working with One Tree Planted, Dushko International is helping get the forests back to what they were.
How can you help?
Starting today, for every item purchased, we will donate to One Tree Planted’s initiative and they will plant a tree. This means, for every purchase, you are effectively planting a tree and making a difference.
That is our promise and our commitment. Will you join us in making the world a better place?
The care of the Earth is our most ancient and most worthy, and after all, our most pleasing responsibility
